Daryl

Daryl Downs is the captain of Red Buffalo’s endurance team and a student at Ursinus College (graduating in 2009). He has been competing in Endurance since 2002. Daryl is Cincinnati's trainer, and "jockey" in races. He has been riding since he was 12 years old and got his first chance on a horse at the Red Buffalo Ranch Summer Camp. He had liked working with the horses so much, he never left! He and Cincinnati have experienced a lot of success in their time together. His accomplishments include: 3rd in the 2004 Old Dominion 50, 1st place in the 2005 Old Dominion 100 (his first 100 mile ride), and 2nd place and Best Condition in the 2006 Old Dominion 100, 1st place in the 2006 Peace Point 50, 8th in place 2007 Old Dominion 100 and 1st place in 2008 No Frills 55. But with the good, comes the bad, Cincinnati has had issues with moon blindness, causing him to go blind in his left eye. Daryl and Cincinnati will not let this blindness get in the way of continuing to race. Since an eye does not affect his speed and endurance abilities, they will continue racing, but be sure to be much more careful on rides!

Gabe

Gabe VanArman is an Ursinus College graduate. He has been working at the Red Buffalo since 2003. He rides Dyno, who was formally Mike's Endurance horse. Now that Mike no longer races Gabe has taken over the position. Dyno is a flea bitten gray (speckled) Polish Arabian. He is a veteran to racing, and he and Gabe make a great match for each other. Dyno has taught Gabe a lot, and vice versa. His accomplishments include: 7th in the 2006 Old Dominion 50, 2nd in the 2006 Genessee 50, 2nd in the 2006 Peace Point 50 and 1st place in the 2008 Fort Valley 55.

Liz

Liz Moran is currently attending Delaware Valley college. Liz has been involved in endurance since 2006. Liz rides Zach, a young horse at Red Buffalo with loads of potential. Liz and Zach have been together since Zach arrived in 2004. We wish them both the best as they continue to grow together and learn endurance together. Liz’s accomplishments include a 6th place finish in the 2007 No Frills 55 and 5th place at 2007 Fort Valley 50.

Alex

Alex Young is currently attending Methacton High School. Alex is Ty’s rider and trainer. In 2008, Alex began endurance riding and had great success! Competing together in all three Old Dominion limited distance rides this year and completing. With their three completions, they snagged their first Old Dominion Triple Crown Award. Congratulations Alex!

Nicole

Nicole Young is currently attending Methacton High School. Nicole is Piper’s rider and trainer. In 2008, Nicole began endurance riding and had great success! Competing together in all three Old Dominion limited distance rides and completing. With their three completions, they snagged their first Old Dominion Triple Crown Award. Nicole also completed her first 50 mile ride in the Carolina 50, finishing 12th on a friend’s horse. Congratulations Nicole!

Sam W.

Sam Wilcox currently attends Lansdale Catholic High School. She is currently training one of Red Buffalo’s newest Arabians, Booker (pictured), to do endurance. We wish her luck and will keep you updated as she competes in her first endurance rides in 2009!

Sam F.
